Details

The Wilds are a strange place to be with it's bleak sands which seem to run off into eternity. But the sight of man sized spiders running over the dunes gives even you a pause to shiver. You try to avoid the Assassin Spiders as best you can. In doing so you are driven into a quiet corner of the Snare and are relieved to suddenly find a Camp.

You instantly recognize the Purist robes, and stop immediately as a guard levels his staff at you, 'Who are you? What do you want?' Before you can answer the guard stops and stares directly at your eyes. 'You're a Clone. But I don't recall seeing that particular Iris Code. What Model are you?' You are taken aback by his abruptness and tell him that you have no Model Number, you simply are. The Purist blinks at you in confusion, then promptly scans you with his Datapad. After a few seconds the pad bleeps and the Purist looks up from it slowly.

'You're a G27 Unit?' You nod, he scans you again and gets the same result apparently. 'You must meet my Mentor, he will sort this out.' With that he turns and walks into the camp. He leads you to the central tent, where the Guard hands his Datapad to an Old Purist within.

The Purist looks at the pad then looks from you to the Guard, 'So Sarthinol, what do you derive from this ident scan?' The Purist is about to speak then stops, then steps to one side, 'May I introduce the G27 Unit.' The Old Purist's eyes sparkle with pleasure at his students apartment discomfort, 'Good, good. Manners are important Sarthinol.'

The Old Purist smiles broadly at you, 'It's a pleasure to meet you sir, I have to say that a G27 Unit hasn't been seen in these parts for centuries, lots of interesting things told about your nature. But that is best seen rather than told. I have a favor to ask if you would listen. We are investigating an ancient Pillar found just south of here. Unfortunately one of our Junior Students has gone missing, I think probably killed by the Spiders. His study notes were stored in the Archive Cyborg accompanying him and that has been lost also. Can you find out what happened to the Cyborg, they are much tougher than young Student Purists, and I would want to find out what was important enough for my Student to lose his life over.'

After a search of the snare you find no sign of the missing Student Purist, but you do find the remains of a Cyborg.

The Old Purist did mention that a Cyborg accompanied the Student. There is not much left of the Cyborg, the Spiders seems to have stripped the flesh off the implants and bones. This does not seem to have been done very carefully, there are large chunks of machinery missing. A Datapad lays close to the body. As you search its files you find that the main data was stored in the Cyborg itself for security. Only the minor information was saved onto the Datapad. Index and vague hints at the purpose of the main file stored on the Cyborg.

You are about to throw it away when you find a complete file. It seems to have been the last one written by the Student. He probably didn't have time to upload to the Cyborg before he died. It concerns a carving on the Pillar. He seems to think the interpretation of alignment to the stars is wrong and a much simpler answer seems more likely. He proposes that the carving has been damaged with erosion and has extrapolated the original form of the carving. The image must be seen in a hologram to interpreted properly. The reason for this is that the carving needs to be viewed from the front. The hologram is not on the Datapad only the Exe file. The data needs to be reconstructed to view the image. The Old Purist did want to see what drove the Student to his death. You process the Hologram.exe file and the Datapad spits out a Blueprint. You sigh deeply. The Cyborg was torn apart and eaten by the Assassin Spiders. It's likely that they digested parts of the Cyborg machinery as they ate.

You should build the Hologram and take it back to the Old Purist.

You receive 1 x Altus Sigil Hologram Blueprint

You return to the Purist Camp. A Guard stops you before you can enter, 'Have you found out anything about the lost Student?'

The Guard looks sideways at you, 'He didn't survive did he?' You reply that you found no trace of the Student. With a deep sigh the Guard tells you to follow him and leads you back to the main tent.

The Old Purist greets you warmly, Sarthinol stands nearby and asks immediately about the Student. You tell him that you found no sign of him then hand the Altus Hologram to the Old Purist. He takes it with interest, then laughs. 'What is this?' You tell him that was what the Student was working on. It must be viewed from the top of the Hologram. The Purist goes pale as he does so. 'This is the sign of the Altus... It cannot be..'

You ask who the Altus are, the Purist stops in his tracks. 'That is a very astute question Unit! Everyone wants what they left, not to know who they were. We don't now who or where they went. Only they left. I thank you for this information, it means that we must study then pillar much more fully. The problem is that we simply don't understand what the pillar is doing here. Ah well, it just means that I have to earn my pay I suppose.'
